Our New Year programme has variety to suit all tastes – traditional as well as exciting new acts – and always good!

Don’t forget that annual Club membership also renews in January – you don’t have to be a member to come along on any evening, but members do make a saving on every guest evening throughout the year.

PETE MORETON                                                                         Entrance £8
Folk singer, songwriter and performer originally from Leicester, Pete started out as a busker on the streets of Europe and has entertained all over the globe, recorded 5 solo albums and worked with the good and the great.

With a wealth of wonderfully crafted songs and great stage presence, his show has great variety: traditional and dynamic one minute, approachable and fun-loving the next.

With a passionate, strong voice and strident guitar style, traditional songs often rub shoulders with Pete's current writing with remarkable ease. His songs are an unruly mix of humour, politics, love and social comment, wrapping their way around the folk tradition.

TIM VAN EYKEN                                                                          Entrance £8
One of the most outstanding members of the new folk generation who have taken the folk tradition as inspiration, Tim won the 1998 BBC Young Folk Award and was soon snapped up by folk’s  best loved band, Waterson:Carthy, touring and recording four albums with them.   In 2007 his own band Van Eyken won the Award for Best Traditional Track for their version of the traditional English song (John) Barleycorn, and also formed Dr Faustus with Rob Harbron, Benji Kirkpatrick and Paul Sartin.

A melodeon and guitar musician of great vivaciousness and excellent songs, Tim also appeared in the National Theatre production of the acclaimed `War Horse’ as the Songman – a tale of bravery, loyalty, and the extraordinary bond between a young recruit and his horse set in World War 1 , now an award winning new film.

With such talent, Tim is bound to give us an excellent evening.

NORTH SEA GAS                                                                         Entrance £8
One of Scotland’s most popular folk bands with great vocals and tremendous three part harmonies.  Just 3 guys, but guitars, mandolin, fiddle, bouzouki, whistles, bodhrans, banjo and good humour are all part of the entertainment. They have received Gold and Silver disc awards from the Scottish Music Industry Association and regularly have sell out shows at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

With a great fan base in their native stomping ground north of the border, this highly entertaining band have recorded 14 albums and are constantly adding new material to their show.

North Sea Gas are Dave Gilfillan, Ronnie MacDonald and Grant Simpson - they have a reputation for rousing sing along vocals and big heartfelt ballads, add to that a sense of on stage fun and tongue in cheek humor and we’re looking forward to have them with us `down south’
