Returning
after the summer break, the Club starts off the new season with a great event
unique in the South East!
08 September 2010
ARTISAN Entrance
£10
Artisan are Hilary Spencer, Jacey Bedford and Brian Bedford - three friends who decided
to sing together for fun way back in 1984 in deepest darkest Yorkshire.
Since they hit the road, this
supremely talented trio have taken their own brand of harmony and humour round
2005 was planned to be Artisan's final year – the group disbanded whilst celebrating twenty years in the business.
And
now they’re back! We are proud to
present these fantastic performers as part of their short return tour - this
will be the only place to see this hugely popular trio in the South East.
Artisan's special talent is making friends with
an audience, who in turn love the dynamic, a cappella harmonies, superbly
crafted poignant songs and fabulous humour which are their trademark. Come along to welcome them back, and enjoy a
special evening as they resurrect old favourites and
entertain with new songs from their recently-released latest album.
SINGERS NIGHT (What’s a singers’ night?) Entrance £3
From
this evening the Club will take up residence in a new room within the venue
–the Regency Room (upstairs, over
the bar) - which was a great success
when trialled earlier this year.
The
Singer’s Night will be as usual in all other aspects and we look forward to
welcoming one and all in our new home.
SINGERS NIGHT – again! Entrance £3
Yes,
a second week running
(it falls like that sometimes!) to bring your own songs and
melodies to the Regency Room. An optional
theme might be something autumnal, now the nights are closing in?
29 September 2010
STEVE TURNER Entrance
£8
Steve
comes from a family of singers and concertina players - his grandfather was known to have sung and
played the instrument in the 1890's.
Steve began his career at the end of the 1960s; in 1979 he won the
Melody Maker "Stars of the 80s" national competition and remained
popular on the folk circuit until he pursued other interests in 1991.
But folk music has a habit of getting into your blood so
2004 saw Steve make a welcome return to the folk scene. A new album
"The Whirligig of Time" featuring guests Martin Carthy, Nancy Kerr & James Fagan and Miranda Sykes was
released in 2008 to great acclaim.
A wonderful voice
giving powerful interpretation of song plus his mastery of the concertina
leaves all who hear him enthralled
